Participating Faculty Profiles

Guillaume Louis Kiyombo (MPH, PhD) is co-Principal Investigator of this Fogarty/NIH Bioethics project. He received his Masters in Public Health and his PhD in environmental science from Tulane University. As Director of Training, Professor Kiyombo is responsible for the MPH curriculum at the Kinshasa School of Public Health, where he is also head of the ethical review committee.

Emile Wemakoy Okitolonda (MD, PhD) is the former Dean of the School of Public Health (2001-2005). He obtained his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Louvain (Belgium). He is Principal Investigator of a CDC Global AIDS Program which aims to strengthen HIV surveillance in DR Congo and provide technical assistance in HIV/AIDS control and prevention.

Mukungo wa Mapfumo Munyanga (MD, MPH, PhD) is the current Dean of the Kinshasa School of Public Health, former head of the Ethics Committee at the School, and he received his MPH and PhD in Public Health from Tulane University.
Willy Bongo Pasi Moke Sangol (PhD) is the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Humanities, and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kinshasa. Professor Bongo Pasi teaches bioethics to graduate students at the Faculty of Science at the Department of Environmental Science. He recently contributed to the book Reinventing Order in the Congo: How People Respond to State Failure in Kinshasa (Zed Books, 2005).
