Maral Erol, PhD, is a Research Specialist in the Department of Social Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She has completed her PhD in Science and Technology Studies (STS) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University and ten years of academic experience in several universities in Istanbul, Turkey.
Her research interests include gender, science and technology relations; biomedical technologies; and medicalization. She published on topics such as medicalization of menopause in Turkey, perceptions of osteoporosis and risk in menopause, discourses of normal and abnormal menstruation, andropause and male aging, functional foods, and feminist technoscience. Currently, she is working on the Food Allergy Treatment and Dual Careers projects at UNC.
