Ilona Kitay is a resident in the UNC internal medicine program. She is from Moldova and grew up in Washington State. She attended the University of Pennsylvania where she obtained her BA in psychology. Afterwards, she spent two years in Washington D.C. as a clinical research coordinator. She then attended Virginia Tech School of Medicine. During medical school, she participated in sickle cell disease research as well as a study aiming to understand moral distress versus moral injury in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is interested in pursuing a hematology-oncology fellowship in the future. She is particularly interested in health disparities research, improving goals of care conversations, and is looking forward to getting involved in medical ethics. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hosting dinner parties, traveling, and playing with her two dogs.
