Laura attended medical school at Pontfícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. After obtaining her medical degree, she joined the Simonyan lab at Harvard University as a postdoctoral fellow in 2017-2020 where she applied multimodal neuroimaging techniques to study brain networks affected in movement disorders. Laura is currently a third-year neurology resident at the University of North Carolina. Aside from her clinical duties, she developed an interest in neuroethics and leads a project on the ethical implications of the effects of deep brain stimulation on cognition. Laura also holds current positions as an American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Neurologist-in-Training Clinical Ethics Elective Fellow and as the sole resident member of the AAN Ethics, Law, and Humanities Committee.
