The Parr Center for Ethics and the UNC Center for Bioethics are pleased to announce that Donald Marquis will present at the UNC Bioethics Faculty Seminar August 29th, 2016 at 1:00 – 2:30pm.
Don Marquis is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Kansas. His area of specialization is ethics, in particular, bioethics. He has published on the subjects of abortion ethics, the definition of death, medical research ethics, and the ethics of adultery.
THE “CADAVER” ORGAN DONATION PROBLEM
Organ transplantation is typically a life-saving procedure. However, it can be shown that so-called “cadaver” organ donors are not cadavers at all. It follows that such organ donation involves killing an innocent human being. This is certainly a problem. I suggest that possible solutions to this problem can be discovered (surprise!) by attention to discussions of abortion ethics.
